A Legitimate Home Based Business Idea… Write and Sell eBooks

Okay, in my last post I discussed making money on eBay, which really isn’t all that hard if you learn how to do it the right way.

Today, I’m going to talk about another way to make money online - write and sell ebooks. I make about half of my online income from selling my own information products, and there are a couple of reasons why I think this is one of the best ways you can make a living online:

1. It’s like royalty income… you do the work once, and it keeps on making money forever. Here’s a real life example for you. I wrote my main product in 2004. It has been making me money since then, and it just keeps on growing each and every month. Now, eventually that income will top out or taper off; however, I have plenty of other ideas for products in the works, and I also know that book will always sell - I’ll be making profit off that book for years.
2. It’s low maintenance. Once you set up your site and automate your order process, there’s very little customer service involved. This is quite unlike selling physical products, which I did for a while and gave up because it simply took too much of my time. But, with my ebook business, I only spend a few minutes a day taking care of customer service issues. There’s no shipping or packaging, because all the order fulfillment and product delivery is handled automatically online. It’s very nearly a hands off business…
3. It’s low overhead. Although you may pay a little bit up front to get your website set up (and there are programs out there that show you how to set up your website yourself for very little money) your only real ongoing costs are web hosting and perhaps some pay-per-click advertising. So, most of what you make on a sale is pure profit, after a minimal payment processing fee from your credit card processor - speaking of which, you can get set-up with PayPal in a few minutes and be accepting credit cards and online payments in no time… or, you can just sell your product through ClickBank - they’re the biggest online retailer of electronic books and products - and let them handle it for a small fee.

That’s really powerful, don’t you think? All you really need to do is learn how to come up with good ideas for products, and then produce your book… after that, it’s all downhill from there.

Now, you might think you could never write a book, but let me tell you - it’s a lot easier than you might think.
